Ken Lintern Band - First Journey

One of those oddball working men’s club bands who try to show off their musical versatility on a self-financed private pressing clearly designed to get them work on the club circuit! Fortunately the band are a cut above most of their rivals, six of the eleven tracks are written by them, seven songs have lead female vocals, and this has a lot of good moments. Covers include the Steve Stills classic ‘Love The One You’re With’ and a very sultry version of ‘Summertime’, while the original songs include ‘Mr Fantasy’ (a fine slice of mid-Seventies UK pop rock), and ‘Shy Boy’, which features a really strong fuzz guitar solo. However, the strongest track is ‘Call The Cops’, a fabulous funky, Santana-esque instrumental with some staggering fuzz guitar.
